What is self-care?
Self-care has been defined by the World Health Organization as, “the ability of individuals, families and communities to promote health, prevent disease, maintain health, and cope with illness and disability with or without the support of a health worker” (World Health Organization, n.d., para 1).
Why is self-care important?
Self-care is important to incorporate into your daily and weekly routine as it can support a wide range of areas in your life. Specifically, some of the areas self-care can support include stress management, mental health and physical health (National Institute of Mental Health, 2025).
5 ways to practice self-care:
| Participate in physical activity | |
| Eat nutritious meals | |
| Practice meditation | |
| Spend time with friends and family | |
| Get a full night sleep |
